Russia Expresses Support for Venezuela, Urges Dialogue

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Russia declared solidarity with Venezuela’s government and citizens, praising measures taken by Caracas to safeguard national sovereignty and calling for calm and dialogue following a U.S. military intervention in the country.

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed its backing for Venezuela’s efforts to defend its national interests and preserve political stability, stressing that the nation must be free to shape its own future without outside interference.

The ministry noted its recognition of Venezuela’s newly sworn-in interim President Delcy Rodriguez, emphasizing that she assumed office based on a ruling by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court.

“This step demonstrates the Bolivarian government’s determination to ensure unity and preserve the vertical power structure established in accordance with national legislation, mitigate the risk of a constitutional crisis, and create the necessary conditions for Venezuela’s continued peaceful and stable development,” the statement said, referring to what it described as “blatant neocolonial threats and armed aggression from abroad.”

“We reaffirm Russia’s unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government,” the ministry added, saying Moscow is prepared to continue offering necessary assistance to what it described as a friendly nation.

The Foreign Ministry also appealed for a reduction of tensions surrounding Venezuela, urging that “any existing problems” be resolved through constructive dialogue consistent with international law and the UN Charter. It stressed that Latin America and the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace.
